Killing the Goose That Lays the Golden Eggs

By

The Story of the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs (from Wikipedia):

A man and his wife had the good fortune to possess a goose which laid a golden egg every day. Lucky though they were, they soon began to think they were not getting rich fast enough, and, imagining the bird must be made of gold inside, they decided to kill it. Then, they thought, they could obtain the whole store of precious metal at once; however, upon cutting the goose open, they found its innards to be like that of any other goose.

This story is attributed to the 6th century B.C. Greek, Aesop. It is just as relevant today as it ever was.

According to the socialists the rich don’t need all their profits. Rich people have more than enough. Why should they keep all that money while other poor people have so little? Why don’t we tax the profits of those evil rich people and redistribute the money for the “common good” or to poor people? After all, how can we live in a society where some people don’t have health care, don’t have a house, don’t have child daycare, don’t have enough vacation days, etc., etc. This is how socialist sell their policies to the public. There is one tiny problem though:

The profits and the people who generate them are the geese that drive the economy and give us the prosperity and tax revenue we have, which is the equivalent of the golden eggs. The more profits the government takes away and the more of a target those who generate profits become, the less incentive people have to invest, achieve, and produce the prosperity we enjoy.

The Golden Egg

After all the centuries the story of the Goose That Laid the Golden Eggs has been in circulation, it is difficult to believe people still fall for the promise of taking from those who produce to give to non-producers for a better society. And given that the socialists’ policies not only kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, but also fleece the middle class, and end up benefiting the powerful and politically connected, it’s even more astonishing that they are not all voted out of office in humiliation.

Judging by the lack of comments to your threads you appear to be shouting to an empty auditorium. Those who care have made up their minds and those who don’t aren’t listening. For every persuasive argument you put forth those opposed to your position can put fourth an equally persuasive argument to support their position. For every study, piece of evidence or set of statistics you put fourth those opposed to your position can put fourth their own studies, evidence and statistics to support their position. The term confirmation bias is a term you should familiarize yourself with. As a committed progressive arguing with conservatives doesn’t really interest me, just like arguing with climate change sceptics doesn’t really interest me, for to do so would be to waste precious time taking action to support people who want more progressive government and action on climate change. As far as we are concerned there is no debate, we had it and the conservatives and climate change deniers lost, winning them over is no longer of interest to us we’re all about pushing forward with the solution.

Judging by the lack of comments to your threads you appear to be shouting to an empty auditorium.

I also have an empty auditorium with 26,000 Facebook fans.

Those who care have made up their minds and those who don’t aren’t listening.

Really? No one who cares changes their mind? So that’s why the Republicans are going to win the House this time around…

For every persuasive argument you put forth those opposed to your position can put fourth an equally persuasive argument to support their position. For every study, piece of evidence or set of statistics you put fourth those opposed to your position can put fourth their own studies, evidence and statistics to support their position.

It’s true, for every persuasive argument, there are million false lies that would appeal to the idiot. There’s nothing I can do to persuade the morons of this world.

As a committed progressive arguing with conservatives doesn’t really interest me, just like arguing with climate change sceptics doesn’t really interest me, for to do so would be to waste precious time taking action to support people who want more progressive government and action on climate change.

Why did you waste your precious time writing this comment then? You should go back to your bubble of delusion thinking you’re so right in your conclusions and stay there.

Still the lack of comments on your threads points to a failed blog.
If you’re such a bastion for capitalism why are you wasting your time pissing around with an irrelevant website rather than oh I don’t know running a business or running for office?

As long as the people of the world have to suffer the ravages of capitalism the demand for socialism will always be present whether it’s via the Greens, the Progressives or the Collectivists. The sad thing for a wannabe Conservative like you is that you’re actually deluded enough to think that you’re on the same side as people like G W Bush and all of his friends in the ruling class. Those people couldn’t give a shit about you or any other ordinary Americans; to them you wannabe Conservatives are no different to Liberals or anyone else. There’re just two sides in this Class War the ruling class and the rest of us. Whether you vote for the Republicans or not, if you’re not part of the ruling class then you’re with the rest us. So instead of being a class traitor, a brown nose and a scab by spruiking ruling class propaganda become a patriot. A patriot fights for what’s best for the majority of their countrymen not the privileged few, a patriot fights to protect their land not help polluters destroy it.

I wish you well kid and I hope you get the help you need.

Still your analysis points to a failed understanding of social media. Plus I don’t really care, see below…

You’ve obviously never heard of the concept of a “hobby.” Some people golf, I do this. Perhaps one day I’ll decide to expand, who knows… And why are you pissing around commenting on an “irrelevant website” then?

As long as the people of the world have to suffer the ravages of capitalism the demand for socialism will always be present whether it’s via the Greens, the Progressives or the Collectivists.

Of course, and the latter come along and make things worse.

I’m neither a conservative, nor a wannabe conservative. And people like Obama and his union boss friends give no more shit about about the “little people” than anyone such as G W Bush, as they too are part of the ruling class.

There’re just two sides in this Class War the ruling class and the rest of us. Whether you vote for the Republicans or not, if you’re not part of the ruling class then you’re with the rest us. I’m the patriot and you’re the class traitor, a brown-nose and scab. It’s not possible to redistribute wealth and do massive “green” initiatives without a large, controlling, powerful government, with a strong ruling class. Progressivism supplies the fuel upon which the ruling class thrives and keeps “the rest of us” down.

I wish you well kid and I hope you get the help you need.

Thanks. And you might want to consider keeping your own word and indeed stop wasting precious time.

Is the administrator of this site American or British? Because I’ve noticed that there’s a Brit called Philip Thomas who runs a very similar blog.

Very informative website. Hats off to Capitalist in Chief for taking the time to inform anyone curious about why Socialism doesn’t work. It’s not even a theoretical argument either, just take a look at how Greece is collapsing.

Socialism is probably at best a nice idea for an ideal world full of rainbows and unicorns, but that doesn’t exist…does it?

Thanks Captain Ramvan. Some bring supportive arguments for socialism that are nothing more than an appeal to one’s emotions, i.e. what about poor people, where’s your compassion, don’t be a traitor to your class, etc. But all those are irrelevant since no good intentions will ever make it work in the real world.

BTW, you’re already getting ready for the 2012 elections with a new domain name?

Not British. Currently in America, but not originally from here.

Sure thing, Arthur.

What are you thoughts on Ron Paul? I.E his chances of becoming President in 2012 and on his views overall.

You’re asking me? Someone who runs an irrelevant blog…

I don’t like Ron Paul as a politician and don’t think he has a great chance of becoming president. I appreciate his fiscal views, but don’t like much of the rest, especially his isolationist views. Also, not unlike Obama, Ron Paul has a cult like following, which is a red flag.

13

Come on, Philip, stop being so precious. I’m just asking all the capitalists I know of what they think about him because I find his views interesting. As for Obama I’ve never been a fan of his. When he was running for office I suspected he was making promises he couldn’t keep and that’s turned out to be the case.

You just “suspected”, Arthur. Obama was making promises impossible to keep so obviously he didn’t.

“So instead of being a class traitor, a brown nose and a scab by spruiking ruling class propaganda become a patriot. A patriot fights for what’s best for the majority of their countrymen not the privileged few, a patriot fights to protect their land not help polluters destroy it”–Chris from this board.

There were absolutely no points made in that argument. I’m assuming this guy is fighting to protect his own interests of usurping value for himself and wants to drag everyone else into it through aimed guilt and force.

Actually, I don’t have to assume that. It’s a fact that the only way people that believe in exploiting everybody for a “higher good” can succeed in initiating it fully into society is through placing false guilt on the people and using governmental force and violence.

Every socialist I’ve met has only had views that contradict themselves. I.E. “ruling class propoganda.” Every socialist has spewed some socialist propoganda that they’ve heard from another. On this board, Chris has just made his own propoganda, and it’s ridden with guilt and non-sequitors that could very well be the words from an angry and oppressed follower of a modern Joseph Stalin.

Non-sequitors are the worse kind of false argument, and it seems to be the favorite tool of the unwise and greedy. This is, of course, because guilt ridden and uneducated people have a very hard time seeing through the BS of the non-sequitor. And without bias, I will say that an educated and genuinely wise person would never create a non-sequitor as an argument–it simply has no truth.

Those who believe in the benevolent factors of capitalism seem to be the only ones who make connections to real human nature and use rational thoughts and actions. The only way I’ve seen lowly, socialist individuals act to to thwart inequality is through brutal violence. Human nature and rational thinking immensely tie into the importance of individual rights. Individual rights are the fundaments of free men, and a person’s soul and the principles of the free market are the only things that seem to support them!

This reminds me of the following definition, which is the real dictionary meaning of being a Patriot:

-Noun- a person who regards himself or herself as a defender, especially of individual rights, against presumed interference by the federal government.

16

So, I have to say that Chris is wrong when he says a “A patriot fights for what’s best for the majority of their countrymen,” as he inserted his own little non-sequitor.

A patriot truly fights for his countrymen’s right to individual freedom, regardless of the majority.

When a person resorts to socialism, he is admitting that he wants someone else to take the reigns of his life, that he wants someone else to give him what he needs, and that an authority knows better than he does. To me, that would be quite embarrassing as for my countrymen to be admitting.

Honestly, I believe that socialist followers don’t see the individual nature of human life and do not look into its future. The only time I hear anything about the future is when they guilt trip others about the future of the eco system.

The middle class is the goose that laid the golden eggs for the capitalist farmers. Hat’s off to both workers and entrepreneurs. Only problem: The middle class wealth is shrinking while the farmer’s is growing. E.g 1% of the “farmers” now receive 20% of the income, taxed at one of the lowest rates in history — compared to 8% in the 1970′s. What will happen to those wonderful entrepreneurs when the number of geese keeps dwindling and they get to keep less and less of the golden eggs they produce so that they are less and less capable of buying all the things they produce — like homes, for example?

Socialism is not the answer to our problems. Neither is the kind of capitalism that is on the road to killing the geese laying the golden eggs that keeps them in business. As more and more people become like you, not knowing the difference between a goose and a farmer, the U.S. will continue on the suicidal path. I urge America’s middle class and capitalists rather than fight this ridiculous war which will wipe out capitalism (for all but the super rich) after it wipes out the middle class.

18

I agree that capitalism is a great system. What a pity that the US, and her sub colonies represent in no way a true democratic capitalist society. Socialism is alive and well, and capitalism is corrupt to the bone. I love reading the mindless dribble from individuals promoting one political party or the other with the belief that either one represents true difference, LOL !
