Myth: Socialist Politicians Are Men and Women of the People
By Capitalist in Chief
This Myth is typically associated with Democrats vs. Republicans. Democrat politicians are believed to be men and women of the people. They’re just like us the little guys. They understand the needs and desires of the average person. They have empathy and will work tirelessly on the behalf of the poor and downtrodden. While the Republicans, they’re of the rich and heartless kind. They only want to further the interests of billionaires while trampling on the rights of the common man.
Nothing could be further from the truth. Back in the 2004 presidential campaign there was a satire group called “Billionaires for Bush”. Their mission was to emphasize that billionaires support Bush, who does their bidding while ignoring the needs of the little guy. However, what I find most funny is that in reality, all the richest billionaires I can think of, Bill Gates, Warren Buffet, Larry Ellison, Steve Jobs, the Google guys, are liberal Democrat supporters. And Mike Bloomberg is on the fence. Even John Kerry himself, who ran against Bush in ’04, wasn’t exactly a ragamuffin, with a net worth, mostly thanks to his wife, of hundreds of millions of dollars.
How can the billionaires support the Democratic Party if it’s supposedly against them? Well, it’s not. The super rich are rich enough so that their lifestyles are not affected by whatever socialism has to offer. And they are also rich enough to be able to avoid taxation, and lobby for favors from a large all controlling socialist government.
And then there are the likes of Barbara Boxer, Democratic senator from California. Barbara boxer insisted Brigadier General Michael Walsh call her senator and not ma’am (by military etiquette, a perfectly acceptable term of respect for a senator) because she “worked so hard to get that title.”
Well Barbara, and may I call you Barbara, there are plenty of people who work much harder than you do and don’t get nearly as much recognition. This elitist attitude is a strange way of being a champion of the common folk.
