Nancy Pelosi is on record asking the Catholic Church to push her political agenda regarding immigration reform. Now, I thought Democrats were all for complete and total separation of church and state. And here we have the Democrat Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi asking the Church to do her bidding. There must be some explanation for this outrage, but somehow it escapes me.

Many politicians attempt to convince us that big government spending leads to economic growth and prosperity. Among the most egregious recent examples of this is the rhetoric of Nancy Pelosi. To Nancy Pelosi, every government spending results in more jobs and prosperity. Cap and Trade is about “jobs jobs jobs” to her, and the fact that it would bring up the cost of doing business and everything else is of no consequence.

Some government spending for safety and order does facilitate prosperity, but further spending turns the relationship between the size of government and prosperity around, resulting in more government for less prosperity.

Obama’s 17 Minute Answer to Why He’s Raising Taxes During a Bad Economy

Last Friday in a town hall meeting, Obama was asked a question by a woman who basically wanted to know why Obama is raising taxes with the health care bill during tough economic times. Not wanting to give an honest answer, Obama twisted, turned and tiptoed around the issue while speaking for 17 minutes. My one sentence truthful version of the answer is that (to Obama) implementing socialist policies is more important than reviving the economy.

Sweden is a powerful example of the importance of public policy. The Nordic nation became rich between 1870 and 1970 when government was very small, but then began to stagnate as welfare state policies were implemented in the 1970s and 1980s. The CF&P Foundation (www.freedomandprosperity.org) video explains that Sweden is now shifting back to economic freedom in hopes of undoing the damage caused by an excessive welfare state.

To the socialists viewing this: Yes, I know, I know, private insurance denies care to people as well, but –
1. Socialized medicine is worse.
2. If socialized medicine denies health care to people, why bother with it? Because…
3. …it leads to the usual avalanche of negative side-effects of socialism. One of which is that the…
4. …middle class and poor will get stuck with socialized crap-care, while only the rich would be able to afford quality private care. Go equality!

And yes, I know the current bill up for vote today does not instill single payer socialized medicine, but it’s a stepping stone to that end because it puts such restrictions on private insurance, the private industry is likely to collapse in years to come. Just ask Obama!
